Pre-award to renewal

Grant management services for nonprofits.

Winning the grant is half the work. Keeping the funder is the other half. We manage the full cycle, from funder research and applications to reporting, compliance, and renewals, which is why our client renewal rate is 100% on applicable opportunities and their audit records stay clean.

The definition

What grant management actually covers.

Grant management is the administration of the entire grant lifecycle. Before the award: research, strategy, and applications. After it: reporting, compliance, and the funder relationship. Most organizations enlist the help of a grant writer for the first half and improvise the second, which is exactly backwards; the second half decides whether funding continues.

Pre-award

  • Funder research matched to your programs and geography
  • 12-month live funding calendar built around real deadlines
  • Grant readiness: budgets, board documents, program data organized
  • Application writing and submission, fully managed

Post-award

  • Progress and financial reporting, drafted and submitted on time
  • Compliance tracking against each funder's requirements
  • Funder relationship stewardship between cycles
  • Renewal positioning, so this year's award funds next year too

What we prevent

The three ways funding quietly dies.

Won the grant, lost the funder

Late or thin reporting is the quiet killer of nonprofit funding. Funders rarely complain; they simply decline the next application. Post-award discipline is how a one-time award becomes a durable funding stream.

Audit-season panic

Restricted funds, spending documentation, and reporting trails have to hold up when the auditor arrives. Our clients keep a clean audit record because compliance is managed monthly, not reconstructed annually.

The spreadsheet nobody owns

Deadlines in one inbox, reports in another, and no single view of what's due. We run the calendar and the follow-through, so nothing slips between staff transitions.

How it’s priced

Three plans, matched to your funding goal.

Full grant management runs $3,000 to $6,500 per month, from regional foundations to federal pursuit, each with 18 to 30 applications a year, a live funding calendar, and post-award reporting. Every price is public. Application writing itself is covered on our grant writing services page →

Management questions

Worth knowing up front.

What are grant management services?

Grant management is everything around the award itself: before it, researching funders, planning the calendar, and preparing applications; after it, reporting, compliance, spending documentation, and funder communication. Grant writing produces the application; grant management makes sure the funding is won, kept, and renewed.

What is the difference between grant writing and grant management?

Grant writing is one stage of the cycle: producing the application. Grant management covers the whole cycle, including what happens after you win, which is where many organizations struggle. Our plans include both, because a won grant with failed reporting costs you the funder permanently.

How much do grant management services cost?

Our full grant management plans, including post-award reporting, run $3,000 to $6,500 a month depending on your annual funding goal, on 6 to 12 month engagements billed monthly. Organizations starting smaller can begin on our $1,500/month Foundation plan. Every price is published on our pricing page, and our grant writer cost guide covers industry rates.

Do you ever have to pay back a grant?

Yes, if the terms are broken: funds spent outside the approved budget, missed reporting, or unmet program commitments can trigger clawbacks, especially on government grants. This is precisely what disciplined post-award management prevents; compliance is cheaper than repayment.

What are the disadvantages of grant funding?

Grants are restricted money: they fund what the funder approved, on the funder's timeline, with reporting obligations attached. They also arrive in cycles rather than monthly. That's why grants work best as part of a funding mix, and why the administrative side needs a real owner, whether that's staff or a partner like us.

What does grant reporting involve?

Most funders require progress reports on a set schedule: a narrative on what the program achieved against the goals in your application, plus a financial report showing how the money was spent. Government grants usually add stricter documentation. Our Growth, Expansion, and Enterprise plans include reporting for every award, and it's available on other plans for $1,000 per grant.

How do you manage restricted grant funds?

Restricted funds can only be spent on the purpose and budget the funder approved. We track each award's approved budget, spending deadlines, and reporting dates, and flag anything that needs a funder's sign-off before you spend it. Keeping restricted money clearly separated from general funds is what keeps an organization compliant.

How do you prepare for a grant audit?

Audit readiness starts on the day of the award, not the week before the audit. That means documented expenditures matched to the approved budget, reports filed on time, and a clear record of every funder communication. Federal awards above certain thresholds can trigger a formal single audit. Our clients have a 100% clean audit record.

How do you get a grant renewed?

Renewals are earned during the grant, not at the end of it. Deliver the outcomes you promised, report on time, and keep the program officer informed, including when something changes. Funders renew organizations they trust, which is why our client renewal rate is 100% on applicable grants.

Is grant management software enough, or do we need a partner?

Software tracks deadlines and documents, but it doesn't research funders, write reports, or manage relationships with program officers. If you have staff with the time and expertise to do that work, software may be enough. If not, a partner covers the work itself; our full management plans run $3,000 to $6,500 a month.
